TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The
State Electric Company (PLN) is certain that the coal blockade along
Sungai Barito, Kalimantan, will be over. However, PLN is also ready to
face the worst scenario, that is, the stoppage of coal supplies from
Kalimantan.
An import scenario scheme will be clarified if Java really gets no
supplies from Kalimantan," said Helmi Najamudin, Head of the PLN Coal
Division in a tex-message to Tempo Sunday, May 27, 2012. But Helmi did
not say from what country PLN will import coal and how much money will
be allocated. "Don't know," he said.
Helmi said the planned coal import would be made in reply to the
question what PLN would do if the blockade could not be overcome by
police. "I said, so that PLTU (steam-powered generating plants)
continue to produce electric power, the only way PLN has to do is import
coal," he said.
Due to the blockade, until the next 25 days PLN will not suffer losses
yet, as the coal supplies for Java will be enough for 25 days.
The coal blocade along the Barito River in Kalimantan is part of the
action to demand more quotas of subsidized fuel for Kalimantan.
