TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Suryadi Mardjoeki, oil and gas fuel division director of state electricity company PLN, has confirmed plans to reduce fuel usage in Java’s power plants.
The state electricity company has set a long-term target of 4 percent of oil fuel usage or 1 million kiloliters in 2015. “This year, I can assure you that Java Island no longer needs to consume oil fuel to generate its power plants,” Suryadi said, contacted on Sunday.
The statement has been confirmed by Jarman, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s director-general of electricity. Jarman said that power plants in Java would no longer use oil fuel starting mid-year. “Following the availability of gas supply for PLN,” Jarman added.
The gas supply will come from Jakarta Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), which will be optimized for the Muara Karang and Tanjung Priok gas power plants. Without oil fuel, the two power plants are expected to save up to US$3 million per day.
